“Back off, lover boy,” she said as she let the refrigerator door shut. But he heard the huskiness beneath the surface. The way her voice deepened playing over the vowels. He caught a bit of her scent. She wore no perfume. Instead, the medium she loved to work with seemed to linger on her skin. Vanilla and brown sugar.
