Happy New Year - Melissa Schroeder

Happy New Year

This is a long and somewhat babbling blog, but I thought I would share some things with you!

I thought it was a good time to let you know what was going on with me. I haven’t been blogging that much because of work. I can only spend so many days in front of the computer, so I use them wisely so I don’t end up at the ER.

With the new year starting, I felt readers should know what I am thinking about in terms of books. I went through some changes last year, and while they were painful, they are definitely for the better. So, here it goes.

For the last few years, I felt as if I was chasing my tail. Last year, I reached a breaking point. I was at the ER an average of once every six weeks while I tried to keep up the same writing schedule. It was too much. So, after much thinking I rearranged things. I started writing more slowly and guess what? I started having FUN again. Didn’t matter what I was working on, but I started to enjoy it.

Then, came the other revelation. I was starting to plot whatever book would come after Seductive Reasoning and I realized that I didn’t want to write the book I was planning. Not at the moment. Oh, I had ideas about it, want to do it in the future, but right at the point, I wanted to do Hostile Desires. And now, I have Constant Craving speaking to me. So that is what  I am going to work on.

I promise that the rest of Cursed Clan is coming and that I will have a Santini book soon. I want to offer readers my best work and to do that, I need to make sure it isn’t forced.  It will also give me the time I need to spend with my family and close friends. While I have always tried to make sure to fit people into my life, when I started having health issues, my time with them ended up being the sick times. You know, those times when I was too ill to even think of writing. That is not fair to them or me.

How will this go down? Well, when I finish the book and have it ready for final proofing edit, I will put it on preorder. There will be 6-8 weeks total of preorders and plenty of time for readers to hear about it. This way, no rushing and all my best work:)

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season!

  1. That sounds like a wonderful plan. I, only one of millions of your fans, would hate to think that you’re putting anything ahead of your health and family. It’s nice to hear that you’re having fun writing again. Cheers to a happy, safe and wonderful New Year. Stay out of that hospital and enjoy what you do!
