I might not know how to bake that well, but one thing I became known for was my chocolate chip cookies. Of course, they are my favorite cookies, so I tested out all kinds of cookie recipes. The one that became my go to for baking chocolate chip cookies was Crisco’s Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies. I don’t care what anyone tells me, butter flavored shortening just makes a better cookie.
So, when I decided to come up with my own recipe for a new bar cookie, well new to me, I decided to adapt my much loved cookie recipe.
Mel’s Most Delicious Heath Bar Cookies
- 3/4 cup of butter flavored shortening
- 1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
- 2 T milk
- 1.5 T of vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1 3/4 c flour
- 1 t baking soda
- 1 8 oz bag of Heath Milk Chocolate Bits
Preheat oven 375.
Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in a mixing bowl.Beat on med speed until well blended. Beat in egg.
Mix the remaining ingredients except the chocolate bits in a separate bowl. Add to the other ingredients and mix until just blended.Add the chocolate bits.
Spread into a prepared 13 x 9 pan.
Bake for 19-21 until just brown on top. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
Next time I think I will throw in some chocolate chips, maybe a 1/4 cup, to see what that does.
