Aloha Friday - Melissa Schroeder

Aloha Friday

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED!

It has been a heck of a week. Long days getting Desire by Blood ready, and then starting back in on A Little Harmless Fantasy. We also started school this week, so I have to add a little bit of that into my day too.

I need a break and to take that break, I would like a LAVA FLOW. Of course, I probably won’t get one until January when we head back over to the islands for a visit and the oldest’s 18th birthday. But there is a way to make MEL’s FAVORITE ISLAND DRINK, and here is the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. light rum
  • 1 oz. Malibu® coconut rum
  • 2 oz. fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 small banana
  • 2 oz. unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 2 oz. coconut cream

Blend the 2 rums and the strawberries in a blender to form a smooth paste. Pour this mixture into a tall (Collins or Hurricane) glass. Rinse the blender. Blend the banana, the coconut cream, and the pineapple juice in blender with crushed ice until smooth. Pour this mixture into the glass with the rums very slowly and watch as the strawberry mixture oozes its way to the top along the sides of the glass creating the flowing lava effect. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and paper umbrella.

So, tell me if you have a favorite tropical drink, alcoholic or otherwise, and your name goes in the hat for a $10 GC from the online book retailer of your choice. (B and N, Amazon, KOBO, ARe)

UPDATE: I will pull the name on Saturday at NOON central US time:)

  1. That looks yummy. My favorite is the pina colada so it’s already pretty close on ingredients.
I hope you have a wonderful pain-free weekend.

  2. i’ve never been one for sweet fruity rum drinks;
    i really enjoy a good beer,or wine.
in my travels, i like to sample what the local breweries have to offer, and Kona Brewery makes some yummy stuff!!!
and they sell on Long Island too!!!
Love their Longboards and Koko Brown ale…cheers!

  3. Good I wish I could drink alcohol sometimes but my medicine just won’t let me. So I am stuck with plain old sweet tea or lemonade…sometimes I mix it up. Literally I mix them together for an Arnold Palmer.

  4. That drink looks so yummy! I’m not a big drinker but, occasionally, I do like a Long Island Iced Tea or a Volcano.

  5. Since reading in your books about Lava Flow, I meant to look it up and see what were the ingredients. Now I know… and sound yummy :D… thanks for sharing.
One of my faves is Bermuda Rum Swizzle and I had quite a few… :P… when I visited my best friend who was living on the island at the time.
They have the Swizzle Inn on the way to the airport, they serve it by the pitcher 😀
    Here is the recipe:
    – 4 oz Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
    – 4 oz Gosling’s Gold Rum
    – 8 oz Pineapple juice
    – 8 oz Orange juice
    – .75 oz Grenadine
    – 6 dashes Angostura Bitters
Garnish: Orange slice, pineapple cube and cherry.

My other fave is Mud Slide… yum-yum

  6. I prefer drinks where I can’t taste the alcohol…lol
I’m a big fan of what I call “booze in a bag” (those freeze & squeeze drinks that you can buy at the grocery store), Arbor Mist Strawberry Mango Moscato (or most moscatos really…lol), & Malibu Coconut rum w/ diet coke. Malibu is also good in tropical fruit flavored jello shots (I refer to them as “ninjas” because they sneak up on you & kick your a$$…lol).

  7. I like the Frozen Strawberry Margarita best and I like the Pina Colada.

I think I would like the Lava Flow, with the strawberries and the pineapple and coconut.

  8. Oh that sounds like a drink my sister would love… I will have to share it with her. I do not drink that often, but when I do I go for either a sangria, frozen strawberry daquiri, or a rum punch. 😀

  9. I have two favs … one was a straight mango rum that can’t be gotten in the States. I was at a Jimmy Buffet concert several years ago with a group of people and the bottle we consumed straight (it needed NO help) had been picked up on a trip to the BVA (I think).

The second drink was one I got at a small Mexican Place in Hilton Head, SC last year … all I can tell you is that it had rum, pineapple juice, cherry juice, and they made a 2nd one for me to go! I’ve tried to recreate it several times since I got home with less than stellar success.

yeah … two one shot wonders … or two one night stands LOL
